Bush Anemone, Carpenteria californica:

plant with california bay which otherwise suppresses understory plants water 3xmonth also with redwood and cedars and Ceanothus  This is a very good combo for the upper area below the mound

The sole species in the genus Carpenteria in the Hydrangea family, is an evergreen shrub native to California. It is closely related to the genus mock-orange genus. Common names include Tree-anemone and Bush-anemone. It is a rare species, endemic to only seven sites in Fresno and Madera Counties, where it grows in chaparral between 340-1340 meter altitude between the San Joaquin and King rivers. It is well adapted to wildfire, reproducing by stump sprouts after burning; natural seedlings are rare. In June or July it will produce attractive white anemone shaped flowers. It has a somewhat floppy habit and may benefit from being planted in a grouping rather than singly. It produces suckers which are good if you want it to spread, or need to be controlled if you don't"
